Why Do Ladybugs Come Inside and What Can You Do About It?

Ladybugs are welcome visitors in the garden due to their preference for eating aphids. However, inside the house, they are less welcome, especially when they appear in large numbers. Why does this happen, and what can you do about it?

Ladybugs Like to Overwinter in Warm Places
During the warm months, ladybugs have no reason to seek out our homes. The temperature is comfortable for them, and there’s plenty of food available. When the weather turns in the fall, however, it becomes less pleasant for them. They then look for a suitable place to overwinter. Ideally, this is somewhere outdoors, such as under the bark of trees or beneath leaves. However, the Asian variety particularly enjoys our homes as well. And they don’t come alone—sometimes they arrive in large numbers. With their size of 8 millimeters, they can easily squeeze through cracks and open windows. As a result, you may suddenly find them behind curtains or on the walls.
