why does dill grow slowly?
Dill’s characteristic and intense scent is due to essential oils. This is both an advantage and a disadvantage – due to the high content of oils, dill grows very slowly. When you plant its seeds in the ground, the oils slow down the absorption of moisture from water – even despite regular watering. This is why dill germinates so slowly.
